BASIC ALGEBRA: no credit toward Math requirement (this course will count as an elective course)

FRESHMEN

PREREQUISITE: To be taken only by Freshmen who failed it in the 8th grade for no credit toward math requirement.

Basic Algebra is a basic reinforcement of mathematical skills with a progressive introduction to Algebra. The course prepares a student for Algebra I.

GEOMETRY: one credit (required course)

SOPHOMORES-JUNIORS (Juniors only take as a retake for credit)

PREREQUISITE: Algebra I - Geometry can be taken during the same year Algebra II is taken, with consent of the teacher.

Geometry is a math course of integrated plans and solid geometry from the modem aspect with practical application always kept in mind. It stresses the development of deductive reasoning by use of deductive proofs. Course topics investigate the relationship between lines, planes, angles, polygons, and simple solid figures. Areas and volumes of plane and solid figures are also stressed.

INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA: one credit (as an elective)

JUNIORS -SENIORS

PREREQUISITE: Algebra I and Geometry

This class is designed for the student who has passed the required classes of Algebra I and Geometry and plans to take Algebra II; but, who has had difficulties (C’s and D’s) in Algebra I. This class will give them an extensive review of Algebra I and introduce them to the concepts of Algebra II. Topics include equations and inequalities, graphs and functions, rational and irrational numbers and expressions, and exponential and logarithmic functions and equations.

ALGEBRA I: one credit (required course)

FRESHMEN-SOPHOMORES (Sophomores only take as a retake for credit)

PREREQUISITE: Basic Algebra

Algebra I introduces the student to algebraic properties of numbers and furnishes the student with many exercises to strengthen the comprehension of these properties. The student will acquire a facility in applying algebraic concepts and skills to "everyday life" math and will perceive the role of deductive reasoning in algebra.

ALGEBRA II: one credit (as an elective)

JUNIORS-SENIORS

PREREQUISITE: Algebra I & Geometry

Algebra II thoroughly reviews all the concepts of Algebra I and develops beyond Algebra I the concepts of: rational and irrational numbers, complex numbers, functions, logarithms, progressions, binomial expansions, and linear algebra.
