The approach to the study of Personal Finance in this course focuses on the student's role as a citizen, student, family member, consumer, and an active participant in the world of work and business. The areas of emphasis include: employment and income; financial planning and legal documents; checking accounts and miscellaneous banking services; income tax; savings; investments; insurance; availability, costs and responsibilities of using credit; consumer rights and responsibilities; and purchasing goods and services

 

BUSINESS LAW:

PREREQUISITE: none

Students will learn about the development of our legal system and the basics of criminal and civil law. Emphasis will be placed on minor, consumer, and contract law. The class will be beneficial to students interested in a career in the legal system as well as to students wanting an understanding of the legal system's effect on our daily lives.

A+ Computer Repair:

One Credit

SOPHOMORES-JUNIORS-SENIORS

PREREQUISITE: none

The A+ Certification Computer Repair program covers computer architecture, computer literacy, basic computer repair level I, and advanced computer repair level II and non=destructive troubleshooting methods. Students will receive hands=on instruction in all areas and have the opportunity to build a PC. Then using this PC and training equipment, the student will setup hardware configuration, software configuration, software techniques, and basic networking, peer-to-peer LAN, and client servers. At the completion of the course, students will be prepared to take the A+ Certification test. A+ Certification is internationally recognized as a validation of knowledge, technical, and customer satisfaction skills required as any entry level computer service technician.

PREREQUISITE: Computer Applications

Students will demonstrate employable ability skills acceptable for an entry level office job. The following is a list of the possible types of live production work that might be obtained for IHT: design newsletters, setup/keep inventory on PC, train personnel on software packages, maintain databases, prepare minutes of meetings, keep financial records of PC, design brochures, design forms, design business cards, develop business presentations using presentation software, an design web pages.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT:

JUNIORS-SENIORS

PREREQUISITE: A+ Computer repair

Technology support program is a class with limited enrollment and requires instructor approval to get in. This program is designed for the student who is interested in exploring technology beyond the classroom setting. The participating student will work alongside both instructor and technology coordinator to create a hands-on approach to technology skills. These skills may include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Installing/removing software
* Installing/removing Hardware
* Cleaning and maintaining equipment
* Troubleshooting computer and peripheral problems
* Aiding instructors with computer issues
* Keeping computer inventory updated
* Researching various technology issues in the workplace
* Training faculty and staff to operate the hardware, peripheral devices and software.

Junior High Computers

Computer is a class that allows students to learn keyboarding skills and it also introduces them to Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.

In computer applications, students learn the three most widely-used microcomputer applications: the Word Processor, the Data Base, and the Spreadsheet. Major emphasis is placed on hands-on activities and exercises

 

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II:

PREREQUISITE: Computer Applications

In Advanced Computer Applications, students learn to use Windows, 95, and to create multimedia presentations using CD ROM, scanner, audio equipment, video editing equipment and various types of multimedia software.

 

MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY:

PREREQUISITE: Computer Applications

Students will utilize technology to design and maintain a Web Page for the School District; create informational flyers, brochures, newsletters, and business cards using desktop publishing software; produce presentations that reflect an understanding of how to asses, organize and express information.

ACCOUNTING I:

PREREQUISITE: none

Students are introduced to accounting, which they will be expected to understand and use as adult consumers and employees. Financial transactions are analyzed and recorded, and financial statements are produced. Students are excepted to learn the principles and procedures needed to begin entry-level accounting careers, to further their study of accounting, and to handle personal business applications. Computerized accounting applications will be introduced in this class.

COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING II:

One Credit

JUNIORS-SENIORS

PREREQUISITE: Accounting I

Accounting II curriculum evolves around the incorporation of the computer. This course continues to build on the accounting concepts of Accounting I. New topics include management accounting, cost accounting, not-for- profit accounting, and financial analysis. Accounting concepts are introduced using modern businesses to which students can relate.
