Seventy-two students make 3rd quarter honor roll
Seventy-two students made the three honor rolls for the third quarter. Thirty-one students made the administrator's honor roll by acquiring a grade point average of 4.0 to 3.75. The students included seniors Aaron Becker, Jason Dinkel, Brooklyn Foster, Deidre Jones, Richard Linkeshch, Katie McQueen, Bretta Mick, and Heath Rath. Juniors were Amanda Burngardt, Gregory Harold Jr., Eric Sears, and Katelyn Thyfault. Sophomores included Amada Casey, Geun Hye Hong, Kendra Husmann, Tobin Lanz, Seth La Porte, Brianne Plante, Kendra Stugeon, Ashley Wahrman, and Ana Zica. Freshman were Alaina Becker, Samantha Bobek, Tyler Compton, Taylor Hixon, Kylee Pywell, Rachel Raat, Emily Ruder, Dillon Wilson, and Danielle Winters. Twenty-two students on the Regular Honor Roll have a grade point average of 3.75 to 3.25. These students include seniors Joseph Becker, Deanna Garvert, Benjamin Gehring, Mindy Gerhadt, Heather Hageman, Justin Lacy, and Toby Ruder. Juniors were Michelle Adam, Travis Bird, Lauren Buresh, Andrew Henson, George Lovelady, Kelsey Normandin, Danielle Parson, and Skylar Rudman. Sophomores included, Kassandra Karlin, Pannita Kwanmuang, and Jaden Perkins. Freshmen were Amanda Diaz, Katelin Dohe, Jillie Ganoung, and Andra Mick. Nineteen students made the Honorable Mention Honor Roll. Seniors were Miles Axelson, Kristyn Brummer, Alan Crawford, Aaron Dinkel, and Kenneth Sanders. Juniors included Josh Darnell, Kyle David, Kiley Knouf, Carson McMullen, and Dalton Wilson. Sophomores were Chanellel Chard, Shelbie Goering, Joe Hageman, Ashley Madden, Constance Paramore, and Chelsey Wessel. Freshman included Douglas Paramore, Cole Smith, and Cole Werner.

 

Bands and choirs to perform concert
The Fifth Grade, Sixth Grade, and Junior High/High school bands as well as the Junior High and High school chiors will perform their spring concert May 8th at 7 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.
Due to the MCEL track meet being held on May 6, if the track meet should be rained the concert will be held on May 6 and the track meet on May 8.
The choir is under direction of Jeanette Sommer and Connie Reishus, and the accompanist will be Lesilie Fogle.
The Concert will begin with the Fifth Grade Band performing three songs "Gelenwood March" by David Gorham, "Little Brown Jug Polka" by Gerald Sebesky and "Rock of Gilbraltar" also by Gerald Sebesky. Next the Sixth Grade plans to perform "the King's Court" by ED Huckeby, "The American Spirit" by Micheal Story and Colonel Bogey" by Kennith Alford.
The Junior High Choir will be singing "dancin At the Rock" by Donald Moore and "Pick A Bale of Cotton" by Edwin Childs, followed by the Junior High and High School bands performing "Chesford Portiat" by james Swearingen and "The Great Escape March" by Robert Smith. They will also be performing a percussion ensemble on trash cans that they recieved a 1 rating on.
The Junior High and High School Jazz band will be playing "Sweet Caroline" and "Crocodile Rock" by Jerry Nowak.
Cassie Meyers and Gregory Harold will have a vocal duet to "Mockingbird" by Toby Keith. The High School Choir will perform "Alle, Alle, Alle" by Will Schmid, "One Voice" by Roger Emerson, "One Tin Soldier" by Kirby Shaw, "I Got A Name" by Jay Althouse, and "The Crawdad Song" by Aden Lewis.
The Concert will conclude with both the Junior High and High School Choirs singing "Through the Eyes of a Child" by Greg Gilpin with Amelia Keas playing the flute.

 

March Boosters

The boosters for the month of March are James Monosmith and Kassy Karlin.
James is involved in baseball. His favorite food is pizza. His favorite song is "Watching Airplanes" by Gary Allan. His hobby is bike riding, and his favorite color is red.
Kassy Karlin is involved in volleyball, basketball, track, and dance. Her favorite food is chicken alfredo pizza. Her favorite song is "Fall for You" by Second Hand Serenade. Her hobby is playing rock band with Darlie and Danielle. Her favorite color is pink.

April Boosters

The boosters for the month of April are freshmen Amber Reif and Cole Werner.
Reif is involved in tennis, basketball, softball, CCD, 4-H, and CYO. Her favorite movie is Glory Road. Her favorite song is "Last Resort" by Papa Roach. Her favorite food is buffalo wings.
Werner is involved in football, golf, wrestling, and art. His favorite movie is The Longest Yard. His favorite song is "Animals" by Nickelback. His favorite food is tacos.

FCCLA members take gold in STAR Events
Eight FCCLA members earned top gold ratings at the state Star events in Wichita April 3 and 4. STAR, which stands for Students Taking Action for Recognition. Six students qualified for nationals, which are to be held this July in Orlando, FL. Sophomores Amanda Casey and Brianne Plante recieved a top gold rating for "Health Connection," a project that promotes healthy lifestyles that include good eating habits and exercise. Freshman Samantha Bobek and Taylor Hixon recieved the top gold rating for their project, "What's Eating You?" This project promoted healthy eating habits. Freshman Emily Ruder and Chelsey West promoted abstinence from drugs and alcohol through their project "Bee Drug Free," where they earned yet another top gold rating for the PHS chapter. Sopohomores Abby Jones and Carlie Morris recieved a silver rating for their project "Read to Succeed" which promoted reading skills and encouraged the donation of old books to schools and libraries and reading to elementary school students. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) STAR Events not only benefits others, but also the members involved. The program encourages leadership, organization, time management skills, and cooperation with partners.

 

Twelve Cards out on the Diamond

Twelve Cardinals Make up the 2008 Baseball team under the leadership of Head Coach Ronnie Wolf and Assistant Coach Kenny Dinkel.
The Returnin Seniors include Ben Gehring, Aaron Becker, Aaron Dinkel, Toby Ruder, and Joe Becker. Other seniors include Derek Brummitt and Manager David Becker. The Juniors include Josh Darnell, Robin Lanz and DJ Brown. The Sophomores are James Monosmith, Jaden Perkins, and Alex Dreher.

Ten Ladies form the '08-'09 Dance Team

Ten ladies joined the 2008-2009 Crimson Cardinal Dance Team from a field of thirteen hopefuls after tryouts Wednesday, April 16. Those returning to the dance team from this year include junior Lauren Buresh, sophomore Kassy Karlin, junior Kiley Knouf, freshman Andra Mick, junior Kelsey Normandin, sophomore Kendra Sturgeon, sophomore Krystal Wessel, and sophomore Paige Wilkerson. New members include eighth grader Mallory Buresh and junior Katelyn Thyfault. The dance team will attend the NDA camp at Emporia this summer.

Fourteen Golfers hit the Links

The Plainville Cardinal Golf Team Has fourteen player from last year. Head coach is Jeremy Krob and assistant coach is Justin Nusser. The returning members include senior Justin Lacy, Juniors Travis Bird, Ross Copeland, George Lovelady, Carson McMullen, and Dalton Wilson. Sophomores are Nick Luna and Josh Plante. The new players are sophomore Ana Zica and freshmen Tyler Compton, Cole Smith, Cole Werner, Dillon Wilson, and Sara Iceman.

Track Teams include 8 Men, 13 Ladies
The Plainville Cardinal track team has 8 boys and 13 girls out for the 2008 season. The head coach is Norma Finnesy, and the two assistant coaches are Steve Buresh and Lance Sharp.
The seniors for the girls include Aubrey Frederking and Bretta Mick. The only junior on the team is Lauren Buresh. Following are the sophomores, which include Kendra Husman, Kassy Karlin, Brianna Plante, Krystal Wessel and Paige Wilkerson. New to the team as freshmen are Katelin Dohe, Taylor Hixon, Kylee Pywell, Rachel Raat and Dani Winters.Seniors for the boy's team include Jason Dinkel and Richard Linkesch. Juniors for the year include Kyle David, Andrew Henson, Colburn Patterson, Skylar Rudman and Landon Strano. The only freshman out this year is Doug Paramore.

 

Five PHS Grapplers Qualify for State Tournament
The Cards traveled to Beloit for the regional tournament Friday and Saturday, February 15 and 16. They qualified five for state and placed in the top five in team standings. At 103 freshmen Cole Werner placed 2nd. At 119, junior Dan Weigel placed 1st. Junior Carson McMullen placed 3rd at 125. Junior Travis Bird placed 4th at 135, and junior Josh Darnell placed 4th at 145.
On day one, Werner pinned his man, advancing him to wrestle for 1st or 2nd Saturday. He lost his match Saturday with a 1 to 5 decision to earn 2nd place. Weigel defeated two opponents Friday, advancing him to wrestle for 1st or 2nd Saturday. He defeated his first man with a technical fall with a score of 18 to 3. He won his second match with a major decision with a score of 14 to 4. Saturday he won his match with a 5 decision to earn 1st place. McMullen took his first man on Friday with a major decision of 6 to 18. He went on to wrestle two matches Saturday, winning one by a 2 to 1 decision and the other by a pin, earning him 3rd place. Bird dropped his first match Friday with a pin but won his second match with a 9 to 2 decision. Saturday, Bird dropped his first three matches. He defeated his first opponent with a decision of 6 to 1. He pinned his third opponent to take 4th place. Darnell faced one opponent Friday, but lost by a pin. He came back Saturday to wrestle four opponents. He won his first match with a 7 to 3 decision but lost his second match with a 2 to 9 decision. His third opponent of the day deferred for a score of 0 to 0. He defeated his fourth opponent with a 3 to 1 decision. These men advanced to wrestle at state Friday and Saturday, February 22nd and 23rd were they placed 16th our of 61 teams. Werner wrestled 6 matches, winning 3 and losing three to place 6th. Weigel wrestled four opponents with three wins and one loss to take 2nd place.

 

Ladies end season with 1st game of Sub-state
The Lady Cards played their first game of sub-state against Trego Monday, February 25. The Ladies kept the score close, but failed to come up with a win with a final score of 50 to 57.
In the first quarter, Plainville held on to a small lead with a score of 16 to 15. They kept the score close in the second quarter, putting up 11 to Trego's 15 for a halftime score 27 to 30.
The Cards tied the game up in the 3rd quarter. They outscored Trego by 3 points, scoring 14 to their 11 for a 3rd quarter score of 41 to 41.
Plainville couldn't grab the lead in the 4th quarter, however, scoring just 9 points to Trego's 16 for a final score of 50 to 57.
Scoring the most points for the Cards was sophomore Amanda Casey with 17 points. Senior Bretta Mick wasn't far behind with 13. Senior Kelsey Wyatt was good for 7 points followed by senior Abrey Frederking with 5. Junior Lauren Buresh and sophomore Kassy Karlin each put up 4 points on the scoreboard.

 

Cards win 1st game of Sub-state

The Cards celebrated their first game of sub-state with a 68-60 victory over the Stockton Tigers Tuesday, February 26.
Plainville came out tough in the first quarter, outscoring Stockton by 10 points with a score of 22 to 12. They continued to pull ahead in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 9 to 6 for a halftime score of 31 to 18.
In the third quarter, the Cards still put 18 points on the board, but Stockton outscored tem with 21 points, making the third quarter score, 49 to 39.
The Tigers put up 21 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cards held on to their lead by scoring 19 points for a final score of 68 to 60.
Scoring the most points for the Cards was sophomore Alex Dreher with 19. Seniors Justin Lacy and Toby Ruder and junior Ross Copeland each put up 11. Senior Joe Becker added 8 points, and senior Aaron Becker was good for 6. Rounding out the score for the Cards was senior Jason Dinkel with 2.
The Cards went on to play Trego Friday, February 29 but failed to come up with a win with a final score of 56 to 72.
