Seventy-six students make the honor rolls for the third quarter
Seventy-six students made the third
quarter Honor Roll.
Twenty-five were on the Administratior's Honor Roll by axquiring a grade point
average of 3.75 to 4.0 The students include seniors Eden Rinehart, Scott Peavey,
Chelsea Moos, Jesse Husmann, Caroline Hrabe, Jenna Fellhoelter, Amber Cooper,
Spencer Blecha and Mackenzie Becker. Juniors include Jason Williams, megan Plante,
Vanessa Owings, Seth Keas, Emily Jones, Samantha Hixon and Josh Brungardt. Sophomores
include Bretta Mick, Katie McQueen, Deidre Jones, Deanna Gravert, Aubrey Frederking,
Jason Dinkel, Joseph Becker, and Aaron Becker, Freshmen include Amanda Brungardt.
Thirty-two Students made the Regular Honor Roll by acuiring a grade point average
of 3.33 to 3.74. The students include seniors Jessica Wilkerson, Rachel Thompson,
Brooke Stahl, Tracy Rudman, Gloria Ruder, Selby Reank, Katie Nicholas, Dalton
Mick, Connor McMullen, Brock McDowell, Jacob Keas, Ashley Jones, Garrett Frederking,
Josh Eichman, Taylor Dix, Holly Chew, Casey Buganski and Tyler Brugardt. Juniors
include Amanda Plante, Caleb Parson, Krystal Karlin and Luke Brin. Sophomores
include Ashley Stroda, Heath Rath, Mindy Gerhardt, Benjamin Gehring, Brooklyn
Foster and Aaron Francis Dinkel. Freshmen include Katelyn Thyfault, Eric Sears,
Colburn Patterson and Ross Copeland.
Nineteen students made the Honorable Mention Honor Roll by achieving a grade
point average of 3.0 to 3.32. The students include seniors Starla Willenberg,
Cory McQueen and Joshua Brackeen. Juniors include Caleb Wyatt, Scott Trembley,
Zachary Moos, Justin McCune and Ronald Jarrett Claridge. Sophomores include
Cassie Meyers, Amelia Keas, Derek Jones, Lacci Cunningham and Miles Axelson.
Freshmen include Terry Sumner, Skylar Rudman, Carson McMullen, Kyle David, Lauren
Buresh and Travis Bird.
The Plainville High School Art students exhibited artwork in the 29th Annual Area High School Art Exhibition at the Dane G. Hansen Museum in Logan. The exhibition opened February 3 and concluded March 5.
Thirteen schools participated including Plainville, Hill City, Smith Center, Logan, Norton, Palco, Phillipsburg, Grainfield, Stockton, Ellis, Osborne, Victoria, and WaKeeney.
Thirty-two works of art were entered by the following PHS art students: senior Brooke Stahl, senior Jenna Fellhoelter, freshman Katelyn Thyfault, freshman Landon Strano, junior Krystal Karlin, senior Jacob Keas, sophomore Kelsey Wyatt, freshman Zach Green, freshman Brandon Malin, senior Casey Buganski, junior Tanner Ganoung, freshman Dyllan Lynch, senior Dalton Mick, junior Jameson Mick, freshman Phillip Goering, senior Caroline Hrabe, junior Jarrett Claridge, senior Cory McQueen, senior Katie Nicholas, sophomore Katie McQueen, sophomore Ashley Stroda, senior Josh Brackeen, junior Tommy Sumner, sophomore Brooklyn Foster, freshman Maverick Werner, freshman Nichole Knight, sophomore Deidre Jones, sophomore Heath Rath, and freshman Eric Sears.
Receiving recognition were "Best of Show" in Pencil Drawing: Jameson Mick-2nd place and Brandon Malin-3rd place; "Honorable Mention" in Watercolor: Jarrett Claridge-1st place and Katelyn Thyfault-2nd place, and "Honorable Mention" in Colored Pencil: Katie McQueen-1st place.
Eight students inducted into NHS
The National Honor Society hosted
their annual induction ceremony February 6, 2006.
The new inductees were senior Spencer Blecha; juniors Luke Brin, Samantha Hixon,
Megan Plante and Jason Williams, and sophomores Aaron Becker, Benjamin Gehring
and Aubrey Frederking. Current members include senior Jesse Husmann-President,
senior Tyler Brungardt-Vice President, senior Connor McMullen-Treasurer, senior
Eden Rinehart-Secretary, senior Mackenzie Becker-Reporter, junior Emily Jones,
senior Justin Casey, senior Jacob Keas, junior Seth Keas, senior Scott Peavey
and junior Josh Brungardt.
The ceremony began with a welcome from NHS Sponsor Connie Reishus, which was
followed by dinner. After the meal, T. Brungardt was presented with the NHS
Senior Leadership Award. Reishus opened the ceremony. Husmann defined "Scholarship,"
T. Brungardt defined "Service," Rinehart defined "Leadership,"
and McMullen defined "Character." Becker concluded the ceremony. The
lighting of the candles followed the presentation.
"I think it was a successful induction ceremony. I believe that the new
members this year will do very well over the next few years," Peavey said.
Caleb Wyatt and Emily Jones are
the cardinal Boosters for the month of February.
Jones is involved in tennis, FCCLA, PHAT, TASMAD, and NHS. She is also involved
in CCD. Her favorite movie is The Phantom of the Opera. Her favorite
song is "Its So Nice to be With You" by Gallery. Her favorite food
is hash. Inher spare time she likes to listen to music and spend time with family
and friends. Her favorite motto is "Be good and you will be lonesome."
Wyatt is involved in basketball. His favorite movie is Glory Road. His
favorite food is pizza. His favorite song is "Austin" by Blake Shelton.
In his spare time, he likes to shoot hoops. His favorite actress is Jessica
Alba and his favorite motto is "Hustle Defense Wins."
The Boosters for the month of March
are sophomores Cassie Meyers and Jason Dinkel.
Meyers is involved in cheerleading and choir. Her favorite movie is either Super
Troopers or The 40 Year Old Virgin. Her favorite song is Hit Me With Your
Beest Shot" by Pat Benatar. The favorite part of her day is when she gets
to see Scott Peavey in Mr. Ditters SIP class. She says that Locked in Time
is the best book she has ever read. She loves to eat anything that is chocolate.
The best advice she has ever been told is "Don't take advantage of life,
you only have one life to live, there are no second chances."
Dinkel is involved in football, basketball, track, and band. His favorite song
is "Heart of a Champion" by Nelly. He enjoys watching the movie Hitch.
He likes to eat Lomatoe's pizza. His favorite part of his day is whenever he
finds time to do whatever he wants. His favorite book is Hatchet. He
says that the best advice he has ever been given is that "It's hard to
fail, but its worse to have never tried to succeed.
The Booster staff recently asked students what
their plans were for Spring Break '06. The following are some of their responses.

Lady Cards wrap up season with a record of 9 and 12
The Lady Cardinals played the Kennsington Goldbugs February 18 at home. The Lady Cards came out ready to play and outscored the Goldbugs 12-9 in the first quarter, 19-8 the second quarter, 11-10 the third quarter, and were out-scored in the fourth 13-17. The Lady Cards finished the game and took home a win 55-44. The Cards ended their season with a hard loss to Ell-Saline in the first round of sub-state. The Cards lost 28-42, but their ending record of 9-12 was the best seen for Lady Cards in several years.
Plainville High Against Tobacco collects $536.11 for charity
Plainville High Against Tobacco raised $536.11 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with Pennies for Patients, a charity event which they sponsored from February 6 through February 24. The event was a class competition to see who could raise the most money. Coins placed in each class's collection jar counted toward its total points. Members from other classes could place bills ina class's jar, and this would deduct from the total points for that class. The juniors won the class competition and will be rewarded with an ice cream social in April.
Band and vocal students participate in KMEA and Youth for Music
District KMEA for band and choir took place at Fort Hays State University on December 3. Plainville High School choir members included seniors Allen and Josh Brackeen and sophomore Cassie Meyers. The choir clinician was Tracy Resseguie, director of the Shawnee Mission East Choral Program. Band members included seniors Spencer Blecha, alto sax; Mackenzie Becker, trumpet, and Jesse Husmann, snare drum. The band clinician was Chris Reynolds, director of Instrumental Music at Ottawa High School and Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. The students practiced under the guest clinician and then gave a concert at 4:00 p.m. in Beach Schmidt Auditorium. Youth For Music was held at the Brown Grand Theatre in Concordia January 29. There were 16 students attending from Plainville which included the following: seniors Mackenzie Becker, Spencer Blecha, Allen Brackeen, Josh Brackeen, Jesse Husmann, and Jessica Wilkerson; sophomores Joe Becker, Tanner Dix, Terra Keil, Colt McCune, Cassie Meyers, and Bretta Mick, and freshman Lauren Buresh, Kassandra Collins, Ross Copeland, and Karlee Custenborder. Josh Brackeen was selected to perform in the Kansas Music Educators State Honor Choir in Wichita January 23-25. Brackeen traveled to Wichita and practiced with top students from all over Kansas. A big name conductor was flown in to work with the students. On February 25 the choir performed a concert in Century II Hall in front of over 5,000 people. "All this hard work paid off, and he is very deserving of this," Connie Reishus said.
Nine FCCLA memvers competed in Star Events at Smith Center Wednesday, February 1. Those attending were seniors Amber Cooper and Mackenzie Becker; juniors Megan Plante and Samantha Hixon, and sophomores Heather Hageman, Kelsey Wyatt, Jessica Thompson, Deanna Garvert, and Brooklyn Foster. Plante, Hixon, and Hageman competed in the category of "Kids Count" - National Programs. They received a gold rating and qualified to go on to state. Cooper and Foster entered a project in "Focus on Children" - a senior division. They also received a gold rating and qualified to go on to state. Mackenzie Becker competed in the category of "Career Investigations" - a senior division. She also earned a gold rating and will go on to state. State Star Events will be in Wichita April 9 throught 11. Plainville High School hosted District B elections Wednesday, Fevruary 15. Foster was elected District B Vice President of Programs.
Tyler Brungardt takes championship
Senior Tyler Brungardt competed
in the 2A State Powerlifting Championships hosted by Trego Community High School
at WaKeeney Saturday, March 25. Brungardt finished as
the state chamoion in bench press at the 198 lb. weight class
with a bench press of 310 lbs. He also earned a silver in hang clean with a
lift of 265 lbs.
Brungardt finished 5th overall with a combined total of 875 lbs. lifted that
day.
Fourteen players out for baseball
The Cards began the season with
11 returning players and three new faces.
The returning players include seniors Tyler Brungardt and Taylor Dix, juniors
Luke Brin, Josh Brungardt and Matt Hageman, and sophomores Ben Gehring, Joe
Becker, Aaron Dinkel, Tanner Dix, Toby Ruder and Aaron Francis Dinkel.
Others that round off the roster are senior Allen Brackeen and freshmen D.J.
Brown and Josh Darnell.
The team will be under the coaching of first-year coach Ronnie Wold. Thier first
game was March 28 at Wilson, but no results were available at press time. Today
they will be playing Colby at home.
Eleven ladies take to the softball field
The Lady Cardinal Softball team started practice on Wednesday March 1. The Lady
Cards will be lead by returning seniors Raquel Marcotte, Katie Nicholas, Rachel
Thompson, and Holly Chew. Other returning players will be sophomores Heather
Hageman, Lacci Cunningham, and Deanna Garvert, and junior Amanda Plante. Rounding
out the team will be three newcomers: freshmen Katelyn Thyfault and Kelsey Normandin,
and sophomore Bretta Mick. The returning coach is Melissa Kingslein.
The lady Cards' first game was Tuesday, March 28 in Minneapolis, but no results
were available at press time. They will play at home today against Russell.
The golf team has four returninng
seniors this year: Spencer Blecha, Garrett Frederking, Cory McQueen, and Tracy
Rudman.
Others filling out the team include juniors Andy Brown and Seth Keas, sphomore
Justin Lacy, and freshmen Travis Bird, Ross Copeland, Christopher Fellhoelter,
George Lovelady, Carson McMullen, Michael Wiese, and Dalton Wilson.
The first competition for the golfers will be Tuesday, April 11 at Osborne.
The Cards will host their golf tournament Monday, April 17.
