Singin' the Winter Glacade blues
by: Scott Peavey

As the school year of 2005-2006 moves past its halfway point, the students are anxiously awaiting the most anticipated event of the year--school dance! Winter-Glacade, the second of the three school-sponsored dances here at Plainville High School, is fast approaching. (You can read all the details of the dance in a different article in this edition of the Booster.) Yes, it is definately a wonderful time to be a Cardinal. Well, kind of. I personally have never been too fond of the dances here, which is evident by the fact that I usually am gone after the first twenty-five minutes. It is not that I am not appreciative of the hard work that STUCO and Pep-Club do to put the dances on; I am just not that big of fan of the entire event. But I do always enjoy watching the series of events that takes place before every dance. During the preceding weeks before the big extravaganza, you can always sit and watch several of the males of Plainville doing their best to try and find a young lady willing to be their date. They do their best to woo their respective prospects, but more often than not, sadly, all of the work goes for not. You can find all of the dejected young men sipping their Dr. Pepper in shame at the Lonely Hearts Snack Table. For those who attend the dances can always attest to the fact that the dance floor reeks of lonely, young, hormone-driven teenage boys. But don't worry all you young ladies of Plainville, they are easier to pick out than LeBron James in downtown Tokyo. When all of you girls are in your gigantic group fast dance, (because most of the Plainville guys have discovered long ago that they have absolutely no rhythm) stop from your "grooving" and look around you. You will notice a handful of guys circling your herd, like a lion that has just spotted a group of gazelles that are getting their freak on to a rocking Usher song. (You guys know who you are.) My advice to all of you ladies is to just stop moving for a few moments. I am not sure, but I believe that wallflowers' sight is based on movement. So girls get your dresses ready and set your appointments to get your hair done twelve hours before the dance. And guys, do like you always do, and get ready to hop in the shower about twenty minutes before the dacne starts and throw on a sweater. It's time for the great Plainville High School Winter Glacade Ball Extravaganza of Epic Proportions. But for now I have to leave, for the fact is that I still do not have a date as of press time, so I must go and woo my prospects.

Cards kick off MCL with a victory

The Plainville Cardinals boys basketball team opened up the league tournament with a victory against the Stockton Tigers, 86-24. Superbowl Sunday: Steelers/Seahawks
by: Toby Ruder

Bill Cowher vs. Mike Holmgren. Ben Roethlisberger vs. Matt Hasselback. Troy Polamalu vs. Shaun Alexander. Six seed vs. One seed. It all amounts to the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Seattle Seahawks in Detroit, Febuary 5.
This is Cowher's second trip to the Super Bowl and Holmgren's third. It is the first trip in Seattle's history to the Super Bowl, while it is Pittsburghs sixth appearance. The Steelers are the first sixth seed ever to reach the Super Bowl. On their way to the Super Bowl, they defeated the top three seeds in the AFC. Seattle defeated the five and six seeds on their road to the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh did not play a home game in the playoffs, while the Seahawks never left the friendly confines of Qwest Field in Seattle. Pittsburgh is the early favorite in Las Vegas, becoming the first sixth seed to be favored over a one seed. I asked three fellow classmates about their thoughts for Super Bowl XL. Here's what they said, and I threw in my own opinion for good measure.

Senior Taylor Dix: "Seahawks. The Steelers won't be able to stop the 1-2 punch of Hasselbeck and Alexander."

Senior Scott Peavey: "Steelers. Big Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward will get the Steelers off to a quick lead, and then the vaunted Steeler defense and running attack of Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker will seal the deal. Bill Cowher is 102-1 in his 14 year career as Steelers head coach when holding a lead of eleven or more points."

Senior Justin Casey: "Steelers. Pittsburgh's defense is too strong and they have Troy Polamalu. I also think they will win because Ben Roethlisberger is on fire."

Sophomore Toby Ruder: "Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger is on a roll right now and even though the underrated Seahawk defense is playing well they will not stop the balanced attack. The Steelers defense will be able to stop Shaun Alexander with their strong linebackers and not be forced to load the box with eight defenders."

Brungardts's opponent in his sixth match got injured earlier in the day, giving him the win.
