Vocal music performs Spring Concert

The Plainville High School choir performed its spring concert May 7. The evening began with the sixth grade choir, who performed two numbers. They were followed by the seventh graders, who also performed two numbers. The eighth grade girls chorus also performed two songs. Then, the high school program began. In addition to the normal choir, each student who went to State Music Contest sang one of their solos. First up was sophomore Michelle Reishus, who performed "Sing Me To Sleep," by Edwin Greene. The entire choir took the stage to perform "Hey, Look Me Over" and "Brother, My Brother." Senior Chris Peavey then stepped to the microphone to perform his solo, "Rolling Down to Rio" by Edward German. The combined choir then performed "Bless the Lord O My Soul" and "There You'll Be." The choir then added a surprise number to the concert. Members of the choir joined with some members of the Plainville High School band to perform a rendition of the Mamas and the Papas' hig "California Dreamin'." The group had performed the song for practice during the yearly trip to Concordia for the Youth for Music festival. After the surprise song, freshman Stephanie Tarbet performed "The Little Irish Girl." After that, the choir performed "I Am But a Small Voice." Teacher Connie Reishus then acknowledged the senior choir members, Janell Darnell, Valerie Frasier, Heather Ulrich, and Peavey. Peavey was then given the senior choral award, an award given to the senior who shows achievement and effort in choir. "I was really honored," Peavey said. "I honestly didn't expect to win." The choir then performed its last song, "For Just Aa Little While," and was joined by the junior high choirs for "Let There Be Peace On Earth." "I felt everyone did a very good job," C. Reishus said. This was the final concert of the year for the choir. "Thanks to everyone who supported the choir," C. Reishus said. "Thank you choir members for a super year. It was fun."

Looking forward to looking back

Boys and Girls, graduation is rapidly approaching. The time has come to move out, on, up, and forward. Then you stop and ask for directions, because you've lost track of what direction you're supposed to be moving in. But I digress. I feel that I am obligated to share some of the immense wisdom I've picked up over four years of high school existence. After all, the knowledgr of Chris Peavey...would be a very short column, so you'll have to take this instead.

Firstly, I've discovered that women are the single most incomprehensible creatures on earth. Gentlemen, learn to embrace your confusion. Trust me, it never gets better. I'm convinced the Dalai Lama has been heard yo yell, "What? What'd I say?" afetr more than one woman's retreating back.

Never, ever, EVER, EVER, EVER say "It could get worse" and then clarify how. Not only will it get worse, whatever you say will happen, will happen ASAP.

When you spend a full day on some stuid, harmless activity (i.e. building a house of cards) you're guaranteed to screw it up at one point and utterly destroy all you've done.

I don't care how cool you think you are, look back in two years and you;ll be mortified. Trust me. You may think you've got the moves and all that goin' on right now, but look back in a few years and you'll think you were, and I say this with love, the stupidest rutabagas the Good Lord ever put on this wonderful little planet.

Everyone looks forward to being a senior. Everyone is stupid. Do you know what being a senior involves? Basically it meansthat your spend the whole year filling out scholarship applications you know you won't get. And those of you who think you can skip that better be prepared to live without either college and/or eating. and no, a steady diet of "Mac and Cheese" does NOT qualify as eating.

When one is on a trip with friends, always have an excuse made up in case you have to pretend you don't know them. When vacationing with family, prepare three excuses and an elaborate disguise.

If you ever have the day off and nowhere to go, there is guaranteed to be nothing on T.V.

If you're waiting for an important phone call or someone to show up, either go to the bathroom, take a shower, or try to sleep. They'll show up immediately. Believe me, it works like a dream.

Always watch your back when golfing. You never know when some old person on the course will become offended at your bag throwing, grass ripping, club breaking, ball chucking, profanity spewing dance after a missed three foot put for par. (You know I don't do this. I've never had a put for par in my life.)

The bets part about having friends is that they'll always be there. The worst part is that sometimes you can't make them leave.

So cats and kittens, this is the ned of the road. You've just suffered through the final column that Sims let me write in order to fill space. The sarcasm of one Chris Peavey will no longer adorn these pages. To those of you who read and laughed, thanks. To those of you who read and didn't laugh, sorry. To those of you who never read, I guess I can call you inconsiderate jerks, because we both know you'll never see this.

In closing, thanks for the chuckles. See you 'round the galaxy.

Softball plays last game of regular season

The softball team traveled to Ellis May 6 for their last regular season game. The girls were able to play one JV game and a double header for varsity. They were short each game, losing 6-15 in the JV game, and 4-7 and 3-4 in the varsity games.

"We did hit the ball fairly well, ran the basesmore aggressively, and were more productive with the people who got on base. Basically, in all three games, we didn't play well enough to win. We play very well in the field, but notdoing what was needed offensively adds up to not a very good outing for us," Coach Lee Weber said.

The girls will play the first round of reionals against Lincoln Monday at 3:45. Their record vs. Lincoln is1-2. They will be facing the best pitcher, Katie Moore, who has 11 wins, 2 losses, and over 100 strike-outs on the season.

"For regionals we need to clean up our fielding, sharpen our focus, make the plays in the field and at the plate that we most definitely have the talent to do and win the ball games," Weber said.
