FFA sponsor Ryan Miller said that they had a really good turnout. Around180 people came to eat for a profit of about $500. "The advertisements were a huge part of the Hog Roast's success. In working with the Hays Daily News, the Plainville Times, and Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Turnbull, we were able to bring in more people,"Miller said.
GETTING "STUFFED" FOR THANKSGIVING
The Cardinal Booster asked several students this question: On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, how stuffed do you get on Thanksgiving? Below are their replies.
"Ten, because I eat until I can't eat anymore and then some on Thanksgiving. I might gain weight, but I enjoy it at the time," senior Rachel Thompson said.
"I'd say 10. I get so stuffed I have to unbuckle my pants and loosen my belt and maybe visit the bathroom," junior Zach Moos said.
"Ten Oh man, I tell ya I eat a lot on Thanksgiving. I remember this one Thanksgiving I ate half a ham and stuffing all by myself. That doesn't even compare with 1996. We had two deep fat fried turkeys, and my mom and dad and grandma and grandpa and aunt and all my cousins and I ate it all. Yup. Good times. I think Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays but it doesn't even compare with Christmas," sophomore Justin "The Majestic" Lacy said.
"Ten, because there's a lot of good food to eat that we don't usually eat all the time," freshman Michelle Adam said.
"I would say a 5 just because wrestling causes me to put a limit on my number of servings," freshman Travis Bird said.
"Let me say 8 ½. I eat massive amounts of Susan's
extra stuffed stuffing. Thanksgiving is a time of thanks, and I would like
to thank my mom, Susan, for her splendid stuffing," senior Dalton Mick
said.
Junior Class conducts successful magazine sales
The Junior Class held their annual magazines sales during the
first nine weeks of the year. They started their sales on August 26 and finished
them on November 2.
The goal for the class was to sell 400 items. If each junior had sold 15 items,
they would met their goal.
Emily Jones was the top seller. She sold 26 items. She received a certificate
for a large drink at Short Stop for selling 15 orders by September 14. She
was also the only one to reach the next incentive that was offered. Instead
of a pizza party that the classes had discussed on having, Emily received
a gift certificate to Pizza Hut, which is one of her favorite places to dine.

The theme of the conference was "You Got the Power," and those attending
participated in weekend of events and training sessions that challenged, informed,
and motivated members and their advisers to become leaders through FCCLA.
Guest speaker Rolfe Carawan motivated the group with the message "The
Difference Is You," and encouraged them to make the most of their powerful
leadership potential. Saturday's agenda included training in the following
FCCLA peer education programs: Dynamic Leadership, Families Acting for Community
Traffic Safety, Power of One, STOP the Violence, and Student Body. Another
session included presentations about FCCLA's membership campaign (Be Part
of It!) during which students learned how to spread the word of their organization.
The following sessions presented collaborative project ideas: The Ultimate
Leadership Experience by using brand FCCLA, The American Cancer Society, Mothers
Against Drunk Driving, and March of Dimes.
Keynote speaker Arik Bostick drew the conference to a close by encouraging
the members and advisers to discover the "Power of One" and begin
living their dreams today.
Despite their busy conference schedule, the chapter members found time to
tour the area. They went to the Bushnell Theater, the Mark Twain Home and
Museum, the Harriet Beecher-Stowe Home and Museum, and the Civil War Cemetary.
The also found time for ice skating and shopping at the local mall.
Any FCCLA member could have attended the conference; however, the members
had to earn the money for the trip or pay for expenses themselves.
"I am hopeful that the trip provided information, experience, and skills
they can use now, and throughout their lifetimes," Tucker said.

Aubrey Frederking, the defending 2A state
champion, placed second at the state cross country meet in Wamego, Kansas
October 29.
Even though Frederking's time was not what she
wanted (she added four seconds from last year) she was not heartbroken with
the second-place finish. Frederking still has two more chances to regain the
title since she is only a sophomore. The only girl to finish ahead of Frederking
in this year's meet was Stephanie King with a time of 11:52:80. She is a junior
form Marmation Valley High School. Frederking hopes to be given the opportunity
to race next year.
