PHS makes improvements
in and around building
Some improvements have been made around the high school
and others are planned.
The first item of improvement was repaving the parking lot
on the west side of PHS. The pavement needed to be redone because of the
potholes. Instead of just fixing the potholes, the BOE decided to do a
permanent fix. The work on it was done from November 30 to December 2.
Improvements are planned for the front hall. The plans for
the front hall will be done over Christmas break. The plan for that is
to put a Cardinal head in the floor tile in the front hall. The tile in
the entire front hall will be replaced over the week on December 27 through
the 31. PHS will be shut down over that week. Due to the old tile have
a hazardous substance, the people who will be tearing the tile out well
be wearing bio-hazardous suits and respirators.
They plan to replace the tile in the classrooms and hallways
over the next four years.
Students make KMEA
group
The KMEA concert was on December 11, at Beach Schmidt performing
Arts center at Fort Hays State University.
The Plainville High School student that participated in
the KMEA band concert was sophomore Chris Fogle (tenor saxophone). Participating
in the KMEA choir were junior Rebecca Masters (alto) and sophomore Chris
Peavey (bass).
The auditions took place at Fort Hays State University in
November.

concert
The high school choir performed their Christmas concert,
December 6 under the direction of Bill Schick and accompanied by Mary
Jo Stout.

Christmas Promise" by Carl Strommer, "Hallelujah to the King"
by Patsy Ford Simms, "Winter Wonderland" arranged by Ruth Elaine
Schram, "Through Winters Window" by Brad Printz, and "Peace

Students help repair Halloween damage
Stuco and seniors Ashley Mick, Rebecca Siefers, Martha Hammerschmidt,
and Marcie Rohleder helped clean up and fix Jeremy and Amy Krob's shed
that was set on fire.
Stuco funded the extra expenses. The senior girls thought
up the idea with the help of Mr. Hilgers, so they talked to Mr. Buresh
about the idea to help the Krob's fix their shed. They went to help on
December 4. They also offered to help Principal Roger Morris with the
damage done to his property, but he declined.
"It made me feel good that we could repair the damage
to Krob's shed. By doing this we hope the community will see that students
care about the school's reputation," Rohleder said.
FCCLA has many activities
The FCCLA members had many events this month.
On December 15, at 7:30 a.m. some of the members went over
to the elementary school to see if the kids had their seatbelts on, and
if they did, they got a Lifesaver of Smartie.
The FCCLA and FFA had a joint Christmas party December 16
at 6:30 p.m. Some of the members spent time after school on the 16th to
decorate for the party.
The FCCLA officers picked four children, two boys and two
girls, from the tree angel at the Plainville State Bank to get Christmas
gifts. Some of the members volunteered to pick up the gifts. Then FCCLA
members bought the gifts, and FCCLA refunded their money.
"My favorite event of this month would have to be the
Christmas party. It is a fun time for members to get together with the
FFA and to make lasting memories," Lindsey Ostrom, District B Vice
President of Public Relations, said.
Graduation plans
Graduation for the Class of 2000 will be Saturday, May 20,
2000 at 2:30 p.m.
The graduation speaker for graduation will be Rich High,
a 1968 PHS graduate. He is now a captain in the U.S. Navy.
The motto for the seniors is: "The hardest thing about moving
forward is never looking back."
The flower is the cinnamon rose for CS Post. The class spent
$1,000 on the caps and gowns. The flowers will be $200.
December Boosters
The Boosters for November are Cassy Whisman and Scott Wise.
Wise is active in football and wrestling. Wise likes to
watch television in his spare time. He likes to watch The Simpsons.
He likes to eat chicken, and he has no listening preferences while he
eats. He likes summer best of all four seasons. So far his most memorable
moment this year is winning the Hoxie tournamnet.
Whisman likes to listen to Selina "Dreaming of You"
and the Dixie Chicks "Cowbay Take Me Away". She like to watch
Dharma and Greg and The Crow while eating tacos. Out of
all the four season, Whisman likes summer. In her spare time, Whisman
likes to chat. Her most memorable moment is when Danielle Rogers, Christing
Ganoung, and she were walking around town, and they dared her to put grandma
underwear over her pants and walk around.
Christmas Plans
The Booster staff asked several PHS students where they
were planning to go for Christmas, what their favorite Christmas food
was, what their favorite Christmas tradition was, and where they would
go if they could go anywhere. The following are some of their responses.

Eating at my Grandmother's.

Definitely turkey.
Waking up to Santa's gifts and going to my Grannie's house to eat.
The North Pole
Junior Cody Krob
I'm going to Bakersfield, Califiornia
I like dressing.
Being with my family.
California to see my family.
Junior Matthew Rodriguez

Those pretzels dipped in the white carmel stuff.

the Pacers.
Junior Kassi Lynch
Probably just staying home or going to my Grandma's.
Definitely the cherry cheesecake.
Well, I'm kind of old for it now, but we still do it for my little brothers.
To get all my present from family and friends on Christmas Eve. Christmas
morning when we wake up, we have our present from Santa under the tree.
To the Bahamas so I could celebrate Christmas without the snow or cold
weather.
Christmas Events
and Wishes
The newspaper staff asked some high school students what
their favorite event about Christmas was and what they were wishing for
this year. They also asked a few high school students how they think Santa
gets into their house.
Senior Dave Hageman: My favorite thing about Christmas
would have to be food, lots and lots of food. I am wishing for Cathy Ireland,
Santa gets into my house by drinking a lot of eggnog and letting the reindeer
do the rest.
Senior Molly Becker: I am wishing for a vehicle,
my first car! I need one, bad, so Randi and I can go for cruises! Santa's
sleigh land on the roof. He slides down the drain pipe and crashes through
the basement window. When he leaves he eats my munchies and files away
saying "Merry Christmas and to all a good night, Ho, Ho, Ho!"
Junior Corey Brin: My favorite thing is that it ends.
I am wishing for Santa's demise (followed by insane laughter), why because
Santa never brought me a Teddy Rupskin. I think Santa gets into my house
by picking my locks with his lock picking kit. Then he robs me and gives
my cool stuff to other children.
Senior Sean Ford: I am wishing for money! I think
Santa makes it into my house by a secret compartment under mom's bed.
Senior Jessi Young: I am wishing for my own house,
or to be ungrounded. Santa used to sneak through my window, but I don't
think he's going to get through this year.
Sophomore Joey Brown: My favorite thing about Christmas
would be the presents. I am wishing for a car. I think Santa makes it
into my house by going through the front door.
Favorite Christmas
Presents
The Booster Staff asked students what their favorite Christmas
present they received was and what they wanted to get for Christmas this
year. The following are some of their responses.
Freshman Jamie Stahl
I've always liked then all. It's the thought the counts.
My "dream man." Just kidding. I don't really care. As long as
it's something I can use.
Freshman Scott Wise
A TV.
Dodge Viper.
Sophomore Libby Hrabe
My stereo.
A lump of coal.
Junior Matthew Rodriguez
A North Carolina basketball. I was in the fifth grade and the biggest
Tar Heel fan.
I would like to get a new puppy so my older dog can have someone to play
with.
Senior Caroline Ramsay
I can't pick a favorite!
A new car.
New Years Plans
and Resolutions
The Booster staff asked students what their new Year's resolutions
were and what their plans for New Year's Eve included. The following are
some of their responses.
Senior Diana Stout
I haven't made any resolutions yet this year.
I an going to spend New Years at the Magic Kingdom in Florida! I hope
it will be really neat.
Sophomore Ashleigh Turnbull
To try not to complain so much and to party as much as possible. Definitely
not get grounded again!
I haven't made any definite plans, but I know I'll party somehow and make
the best of the new year with my friends.
Freshman Many Cox
To like the people that hate me and to try harder to like the people I
hate!
Not really. Probably just go out with my friends then go home at 10:30
p.m. and count down to the new millennium.

for regular dress and leisure suits for dress up."
He said that he rode around in his silver Trans Am with
his friends or went to nearby towns to the drive-in theater for fun.
Besides hanging out with his friends, he would work for
his dad in his grocery store,
For Christmas he was wishing for food and a growth allowance
of five pounds since it was wrestling season.

by he Logan Trojans 55-63 and the Phillipsburg Pantehrs 41-53.
"Logan was our toughest loss. In my mind, we won the

back but lost," Ganoung said.
Lady Cards win two
out of three in tourney
The Lady Cards played in the Pre-Season Tournament on Dec.
7, 10 and 11. This year it was located at Phillipsburg.
The first game was against the Logan Trojan on Dec. 7. The
Lady Cards came out strong and beat Logan by a score of 52-40.
The next game was against the Phillipsburg Panthers on Dec.
10. The Lady Cards were determined not to lose and beat Phillipsburg by
a score of 46-41.
The final game was against the Stockton Tigers on Dec. 11.
Both teams came into the game undefeated. The Lady Cards were tired from
the night before and ended up being behind the whole game. At one point,
the girls came close to getting ahead, but the Tigers' press caused turnovers,
and they pulled ahead by 20 points. The final score was 30-50.
"My overall opinion of the Pre-Season Tournament is
that we played good two out of three games. We came together as a team
against Logan and Phillipsburg, but we fell apart against Stockton,"
senior Diana Stout said. "I think we definitely proved ourselves
in the first two games, but we were all a little intimidated and tired
when we played Stockton," senior Caroline Ramsay said.
The Lady Cards' next games are against Natoma on Dec. 14
and Hill City on Dec. 17.
